Thai Gambling Addict Gets Death Sentence for 14 Cyanide Murders

Prosecutors revealed Sararat, nicknamed "Am Cyanide" by Thai media, murdered victims to fund her severe gambling addiction. She spent 78 million Bhat (US$2.3 million) over three years at an illegal online gambling site, sometimes wagering up to 10 million Bhat (US$290K) daily.
Her method involved borrowing money from victims before poisoning them with cyanide and stealing their valuables. The fatal poison, which can kill within 30 minutes by starving cells of oxygen, is difficult to detect as it leaves the body quickly.
Suspicion arose in April 2023 when Sararat fled after her friend Siriporn collapsed during a Buddhist ritual. An autopsy revealed cyanide in Siriporn's body, and investigators found the poison in Sararat's home. Her alleged victims include an ex-boyfriend and three female police officers.
Her husband, a former high-ranking police officer, received 16 months in prison for hiding evidence, while her lawyer got a two-year sentence for the same offense. Sararat denies all charges against her.
Siriporn's mother, Thongpin, noted that Sararat smiled during sentencing, stating, "She got bad karma back, and I wish all the bad karma will keep following her."
