Sugar Bowl to Proceed as Scheduled Following Tragic French Quarter Attack
The Allstate Sugar Bowl will proceed as scheduled tonight at 8:45 pm EST in New Orleans' Caesars Superdome, despite a tragic incident in the French Quarter earlier today.
Car crash damage in New Orleans
A white pickup truck drove through Bourbon Street around 3:15 a.m. local time, killing at least 10 people and injuring over 30 others. The driver, who was killed in a subsequent shootout with police, deliberately targeted New Year's revelers according to Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who labeled it a "terrorist attack." The FBI has launched a terrorism investigation.
President Biden condemned the violence, stating "there is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation's communities."
Game Security
New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick assured that security measures are in place for tonight's Georgia versus Notre Dame matchup. While advising visitors to avoid Bourbon Street, she encouraged people to continue enjoying the city and attending the game.
