New Jersey Streamlines Atlantic City Casino Self-Exclusion Program with Online Access
New Jersey has expanded its Atlantic City casino self-exclusion program by introducing a convenient 24/7 online registration portal. This enhancement allows problem gamblers to voluntarily restrict their access to both physical casinos and online gambling platforms without requiring in-person visits or video consultations.
The Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) previously required individuals to register for self-exclusion either by visiting Atlantic City casinos in person or through video consultations with DGE representatives. The program, established in 2001 for brick-and-mortar casinos and expanded in 2013 for online gambling, now offers a more confidential and accessible solution.

Attorney General Matthew Platkin emphasized that while gambling can be entertaining for some, the expanded portal provides better support for those needing proactive management of their gaming activities. The new system allows users to self-exclude from:
- Physical casinos only
- Online gambling only
- Both physical and online gambling platforms
Mary Jo Flaherty, DGE Interim Director, noted that this streamlined process demonstrates their commitment to responsible gaming by providing individuals with private, efficient tools to manage their gambling habits.
Gambling addiction specialists consider self-exclusion one of the most effective tools for managing problem gambling, especially since no FDA-approved medications exist for gambling disorders. This program, combined with integrated therapy, helps prevent relapses and supports long-term recovery.
The self-exclusion program is part of broader responsible gaming measures that include:
- Time limits on play
- Deposit restrictions
- Loss limits
- Frequency of deposit controls
Traditional registration methods remain available for those who prefer in-person or video consultation options.
