A New Jersey sportsbook operator faces a $20,000 fine for allowing wagers on concluded sporting events. The William Hill Sportsbook, which previously operated at Caesars, Harrah's, Tropicana, and Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City, permitted 42 in-person bets on already-completed college basketball games in February 2022.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) investigation revealed that customers placed bets through self-service kiosks on 12 college basketball games after they had ended. William Hill paid out over $5,000 in winnings before discovering the error, which they attributed to their third-party supplier, OpenBet.

Additional violations occurred in June 2022 when the sportsbook accepted bets on two boxing matches that had already concluded. The company has since addressed these issues, and the affected William Hill locations have been rebranded as Caesars Sportsbook.

In a separate case, the DGE fined sports betting provider Amelco $10,000 for allowing an illegal $1 bet on the 2024 presidential election and accepting wagers on Seton Hall University games, which violates state law prohibiting bets on in-state college teams.

These regulatory actions demonstrate New Jersey's commitment to maintaining strict oversight of its sports betting industry and ensuring operator compliance with state gambling laws.
