A man was fatally shot by Las Vegas police at South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa following an hours-long standoff on Sunday evening. The incident began around 5 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a potentially suicidal guest.

SWAT teams and negotiators attempted to peacefully resolve the situation, but the guest refused to leave his room. The confrontation escalated when the man opened his door holding a shotgun and rushed toward officers, ignoring commands to drop the weapon. An officer then fired, fatally wounding the man.

Hotel security had initially attempted to check on the guest's welfare but retreated after hearing what appeared to be the sound of a firearm being loaded. Police later discovered the man was carrying a second weapon.

Medical assistance was provided immediately, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers or other hotel guests were injured during the incident.

This marks the 16th officer-involved shooting in LVMPD jurisdiction this year. The department will conduct a standard review of the use of deadly force, with additional details and the officer's name expected to be released this week.

South Point Hotel, located at South Las Vegas Boulevard and West Silverado Ranch Boulevard, confirmed they are fully cooperating with the LVMPD investigation.
