Elon Musk's potential role as House Speaker has gained attention following Rep. Rand Paul's suggestion on social media. The controversial proposal has sparked debate about the billionaire's growing influence in Republican politics and the Trump administration.

Musk, who currently leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Vivek Ramaswamy, has seen his odds of becoming Speaker increase on political betting markets. On Kalshi, a peer-to-peer wagering platform, Musk's implied odds rose to 5%, while current Speaker Mike Johnson remains the frontrunner at 57%.

Rep. Paul emphasized that the Speaker need not be a Congress member, stating on X: "Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk." This constitutional flexibility has opened discussions about non-traditional candidates for the role.

Current betting odds on major platforms show:

  • Mike Johnson: 57-61%
  • Jim Jordan: 13-17%
  • Steve Scalise: 12%
  • Tom Emmer: 4-9%
  • Elon Musk: 2-5%

Democratic lawmakers have expressed concern over Musk's growing political influence, with some labeling him as Trump's "shadow president" or "co-president." Representatives like Zoe Lofgren and Maxwell Frost have publicly criticized the billionaire's increasing sway over Republican decision-making.

Musk has maintained a collaborative approach, seeking public feedback on DOGE's initiatives to reduce government spending and waste, stating in Pittsburgh: "I want to know what the people want and what we should do, as opposed to me just deciding on my own."
