Argentina Investigates Betting Scandal After YouTuber's Controversial Primera Division Debut
Argentina has launched an investigation into possible illegal betting after YouTuber Ivan "Spreen" Buhajeruk made an unexpected debut in a Primera Division soccer game. The 24-year-old social media influencer, who has 9 million followers, played as a striker for Deportivo Riestra against Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield.

The appearance lasted just 50 seconds, with Buhajeruk being substituted without touching the ball in what appeared to be a publicity stunt for an energy drink. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Specialized Prosecutor on Gambling is investigating whether coach Cristian Fabbiani and Buhajeruk intended to attract illegal gambling activity. Following the pre-game announcement of Spreen's participation, several betting sites offered odds on his performance, including BetWarrior, BPlay, Betsson, and unlicensed 1XBet.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has also opened an ethics investigation to determine if Deportivo damaged the reputation and integrity of Argentine football. AFA President Claudio Tapia expressed strong disapproval, noting the sensitivity of aspiring professional players who never reach the Primera Division.
Buhajeruk later apologized on social media, stating: "I was given the anecdote of my life and, of course, I accepted it. I didn't take anyone's place. If anyone felt that we disrespected them in any way, I want to apologize. That was not our intention."
The incident highlights growing concerns about the intersection of social media influence, sports integrity, and gambling in Argentine football.
