2024 Honda Classic: Starry Golf Tournament Returns to PGA National's Challenging Course
The PGA Tour moves to the Florida Swing, starting with the Honda Classic at PGA National. The tournament, which began in 1972, offers a purse of $8 million with $1.44 million going to the winner along with 500 FedEx Cup points.
The Champions Course at PGA National presents one of tour's most challenging tests. The par-72, 7,045-yard layout features water hazards on most holes and includes the infamous "Bear Trap" (holes 15-17), which played 230 over par last year. Originally designed by Tom Fazio in 1981, Jack Nicklaus updated the course in 1990 and 2014.
Defending champion Matt Jones returns after winning by five strokes in 2022 with a 12-under par total, matching Rickie Fowler's 2017 winning score. The field includes 12 of the world's top 50 players, led by:
- Louis Oosthuizen (#13)
- Brooks Koepka
- Joaquin Niemann
- Daniel Berger
- Billy Horschel
Notable past champions competing include:
- Sungjae Im (2020)
- Keith Mitchell (2019)
- Padraig Harrington (2015, 2005)
- Rickie Fowler (2017)
