Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman made headlines with an unusual method of settling a $5,000 poker debt - allowing his friend to be choked unconscious instead of paying.

In a video posted to Instagram, Weidman applied a chokehold to his unnamed friend until he briefly lost consciousness, at which point the debt was considered settled. The friend appeared to recover quickly, and both parties seemed to treat the incident as humorous.

The incident occurred shortly after Weidman's recent loss to Eryk Anders at UFC 310 in Las Vegas on December 7. Following that defeat, UFC CEO Dana White suggested that Weidman, along with fellow fighters Anthony Smith and Clay Guida, should consider retirement.

Weidman, who holds a 16-8 record in the UFC and previously promoted the World Series of Poker free-to-play app in 2022, has not yet commented on his suggested retirement or recent loss. The 40-year-old fighter's future in the sport remains uncertain following White's comments and his recent performance.
