In separate incidents, two armed robberies occurred at Rivers Casino Des Plaines in Illinois on Saturday. Two masked men in a white Nissan Altima robbed a 32-year-old Itasca resident at gunpoint, stealing his phone, license, and credit cards. Minutes later, they targeted a 57-year-old Skokie resident, stealing his wallet containing $2,000. No injuries were reported in either incident.
In Pennsylvania, former Gregg Township secretary/treasurer Pamela Hackenburg, 55, was arrested on November 27 for allegedly stealing $532,747.67 using town credit cards. Investigators found she spent approximately $20,000 monthly on DraftKings sports betting since January 2023. Hackenburg faces charges of theft, receiving stolen property, identity theft, and access device fraud.
The scheme was discovered after the town's emergency management coordinator noticed suspicious credit card statements. Investigation revealed Hackenburg allegedly concealed credit card balances in town expenditures, falsified budget data, and misallocated funds from a $500,000 road project loan. If convicted, she faces potential prison time.
