Rivers Casino Schenectady has ended its partnership with mixed martial arts promoter Cage Wars, denying allegations that political differences influenced the decision. The casino maintains it was purely a business move to diversify their event offerings.

Since 2018, Cage Wars has hosted over 20 MMA events at Rivers Schenectady Event Center. The promotion company's major sponsors include Sticker Mule and Stimulus, both owned by Republican businessman Anthony Constantino, who supported Donald Trump's 2024 campaign.

The timing raised questions due to the contrasting political affiliations between Constantino and Rivers Casino's owner Neil Bluhm, a prominent Democratic Party donor who contributed significantly to Kamala Harris' campaign.

"It was solely a business decision as Rivers Casino continuously evolves our event lineup to provide new and exciting opportunities for our guests and the community," stated Rivers Casino representatives.

Cage Wars CEO Timothy Rankins expressed surprise at the termination but noted they had outgrown the 500-person capacity Rivers Event Center. The promotion has since relocated to Glens Falls Cool Insuring Arena, which can accommodate 4,800 spectators.

The next event, Cage Wars 69, is scheduled for February 7th at the new venue. Constantino, now running for Congress in New York's 21st District, plans to cover all attendees' tickets as part of his campaign.

No U.S. regulated sportsbooks currently accept wagers on Cage Wars fights, as it operates as a pro/amateur MMA league without New York State Athletic Commission oversight.
