The Palm Beach Kennel Club has received unanimous approval from county commissioners for a $20 million relocation project that will feature a new poker room and off-track betting facility. The historic venue, which opened in 1932, will move to the north end of its 47-acre property.

The new 65,000-square-foot facility will include:

  • A poker room and off-track betting area
  • The relocated Paddock Restaurant
  • A 5,200-square-foot kennel
  • A four-story parking garage with 900 spaces

The facility is expected to open by 2027 and will operate 24/7. While it cannot offer slot machines due to location restrictions, the venue maintains a partnership with the Seminole Tribe's Hard Rock Bet online sportsbook.

The Rooney family, who has owned the property since 1972, plans to sell 42 acres to developers for a luxury high-rise project featuring 2,000 residencies and mixed-use space. The property's prime location near Palm Beach International Airport, which served nearly eight million passengers last year, makes it particularly attractive for development.

Despite Florida's 2018 ban on greyhound racing, the Palm Beach Kennel Club remains profitable, generating $16.3 million in poker revenue during fiscal year 2024, ranking among the top three cardrooms in Florida. The Rooney family, who also owns the Pittsburgh Steelers, continues to maintain significant interests in horse racing, including the recently selected $115 million training center at Maryland's Pimlico Race Course.
