Mother of Korean Star Han So-hee Gets Suspended Sentence in Illegal Gambling Case
A 55-year-old mother of prominent South Korean actress Han So-hee received a suspended sentence for operating illegal gambling operations. The court issued a one-year prison term with a two-year suspension and 120 hours of community service.

The defendant operated seven illegal gambling sites between January 2022 and August 2023, with five locations in Wonju and others in Ulsan and Gyeongju. The sites primarily offered baccarat games. Despite a previous fine of 5 million won (US$3,800) in 2023 for similar violations, she continued operating the gambling establishments.
Prosecutors, who initially sought an 18-month prison sentence, have appealed the ruling, describing it as "unduly lenient." Judge Kim Do-hyung of the Chuncheon District Court noted that while exact profits weren't clear, the operation's structure suggested substantial earnings.
The defendant's daughter, Han So-hee, a successful 31-year-old actress known for roles in "The World of the Married," "Nevertheless," "My Name," and "Gyeongseong Creature," was not involved in the case. Her spokesperson emphasized that the incident was a "private matter" stemming solely from her mother's personal actions.
The case concludes with the defendant's release from custody following the judge's ruling, though the prosecution's appeal remains pending.
