The iconic Mirage Las Vegas atrium is being removed as part of the property's transformation into Hard Rock Las Vegas, marking the end of an era on the Strip. The demolition is currently underway, with cranes actively removing the structure's glass panels.

Despite initial renderings from the Seminole Tribe of Florida showing the atrium intact, the $4-5 billion renovation will only preserve the casino's core structure, towers, and villas. The tribe purchased the property for $1.1 billion in December 2022.

The atrium, designed by Steve Wynn, was a defining feature of The Mirage since its opening. It featured a 100-foot high domed skylight, cascading waterfall, towering palm trees, and 100 varieties of exotic plants and flowers, creating an immersive Polynesian paradise experience in the desert.

While many fans express disappointment over the atrium's removal, the decision aligns with Hard Rock's vision to establish its own unique identity. Keeping the iconic Mirage feature would have served as a constant reminder of the previous property rather than allowing the new resort to create its own memorable first impression.

The new Hard Rock Las Vegas is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
