DraftKings faces a $425,000 fine from the Ohio Casino Control Commission for accepting prohibited college athlete prop bets and allowing unauthorized deposit methods.

The violations occurred when DraftKings accepted sports bets on individual college player props in March, despite Ohio's ban on such wagers earlier this year following NCAA President Charlie Baker's request.

Additionally, DraftKings permitted 40,985 cash deposits totaling over $2.5 million at non-gaming retail locations between January 2023 and March 2024, using an unapproved funding method.

Commission Chair Thomas J. Stickrath emphasized their commitment to maintaining gaming integrity and protecting Ohio citizens through strict compliance enforcement.

As part of the resolution, DraftKings must ensure proper staff training on:

  • Laws governing college sports wagering
  • Approved account funding methods
  • Relevant policies and procedures

The ban on college player props was implemented in February 2024 after Governor Mike DeWine and NCAA President Baker cited concerns about social media threats to collegiate athletes. In 2023, these bets represented only 1.35% of Ohio's total sports betting handle, accounting for approximately $104.6 million of the state's $7.65 billion in total wagers.

DraftKings responded by affirming their dedication to regulatory compliance and maintaining productive relationships with regulators across all operating jurisdictions.
