DraftKings Faces Lawsuit After Husband Allegedly Stole $1M in Family Savings
A New Jersey woman is suing DraftKings after her husband allegedly lost nearly $1 million of their family's money, including their children's savings accounts, through gambling on the platform.
According to the lawsuit filed in New Jersey state court, the husband, identified only as "Mdallo1990," wagered approximately $15 million on DraftKings between 2020 and January 2024. His monthly gambling increased from $3,775 to $125,000, representing over 70% of his annual income.

The lawsuit alleges DraftKings:
- Actively encouraged the husband's gambling addiction
- Targeted him for VIP status based on user data
- Provided incentives including free bets, credits, and luxury gifts
- Failed to verify the source of funds
- Ignored signs of problem gambling
Lisa D'Alessandro claims DraftKings assigned VIP hosts who spoke with her husband daily but failed to implement responsible gambling measures or verify his fund sources as required by anti-money laundering regulations.
The case mirrors a previous lawsuit against BetMGM in New Jersey, where the court ruled that casinos are not legally required to prevent problem gamblers from playing or stop offering them incentives.
The plaintiff seeks damages from DraftKings for allegedly nurturing her husband's addiction while failing to exercise proper oversight of his gambling activities and fund sources.
