A woman was kidnapped from Newcastle Casino in Oklahoma, leading to the arrest of Kevin Alando Martin on charges of kidnapping, human trafficking, and forcible sodomy. The victim called Oklahoma City police while naked and scared, directing them to Martin's location at NW 22nd Street and North May Avenue, approximately 24 miles from the casino. Martin surrendered to officers and received a $50K bond. He had previously faced human trafficking charges in April involving a teenage victim.

In a separate case, Nebraska mental health therapist Pamela J. Helem, 69, received five years' probation for Medicaid fraud. She had billed Medicaid for patient treatment while actually gambling at a Council Bluffs, Iowa casino. Judge Leigh Ann Retelsdorf ordered Helem to:

  • Pay $60K in restitution to Medicaid
  • Undergo gambling addiction assessment
  • Avoid gambling and casinos
  • Complete community service

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers has filed a separate Medicaid fraud lawsuit against Helem, who operated Helem's Counseling and Consulting. If she successfully completes probation, she will avoid a potential two-year prison sentence.
